Setterbrae was awarded Visit Scotland’s 4 star GOLD Award
in 2012.

Whether on business or pleasure Setterbrae is your perfect destination. We are situated just a 15 minute drive from the airport and approx 30 minutes from Lerwick.

Overlooking the RSPB Loch of Spiggie Nature Reserve in the south mainland of Shetland, we offer 4 star B&B accommodation. It is the ideal choice for catching a glimpse of the interesting birdlife with the abundance of nesting birds, and the rare migrants that stop off to feed each year.

This year it was exciting to see the whooper swans back and nesting on Loch of Spiggie. It is a rare occurrence for whoopers to breed in the UK.

Guests are welcome to use our well established garden where they will find sheltered places to relax and enjoy the sunny days and long light evenings.

With dramatic cliff top walks nearby and a natural environment steeped in history, the unique archaeological sites at Jarlshof and Old Scatness, loch fishing and the popular sandy Spiggie Beach, Setterbrae is the ideal base for your visit to Shetland.

The nearby beach at St Ninian’s Isle has been named among the best places in the world to swim. This wonderful beauty spot is the only place in Scotland to make the list of “the 50 best swims in the world”.1

The islands are renowned for their unique scenery, excellent fishing, wildlife and over 1000 miles of dramatic coastline. Just a 15 minute drive from Setterbrae are the spectacular seabird colonies at Sumburgh Head, and where it is easy to get close to the puffins from April to August. Permits are available for fly fishing on Loch of Spiggie.

Shetland is also renowned for its outstanding music scene. Throughout the year Shetland plays host to the many music festivals, Shetland Folk Festival, Shetland Fiddle Frenzy, Shetland Accordion and Fiddle Festival and Blues Festival to name but a few.

Check out the Shetland Nature Festival held in July which covers many aspects of our unique natural heritage.

Shetland’s world famous annual fire festival Up Helly Aa is also a big part of Shetland’s events calendar and attracts hundreds of visitors from all over the world.
